Worked example

Example: ratio 9:16 with known width 1080 returns 1080 × 1920; with known height 1080 it returns 608 × 1080 after rounding.

Why can the second result be 608 × 1080 instead of 607.5 × 1080?+

Pixel dimensions use whole numbers, so the calculator rounds the mathematical result to the nearest pixel.

Does a correct ratio prevent cropping?+

No. Ratio describes the canvas. Source composition still has to be reframed and reviewed.
